Recovery at LeConte Family Practice

LeConte Family Practice offers a warm and welcoming environment where you can confidently begin your journey towards recovery. We treat our recovery patience through Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), under the supervision and guidance of a board certified Addiction Specialist.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

MAT is a highly effective tool that can help make recovery possible for those struggling with opioid addiction. It has proven to be a more successful treatment by prescribing medication along with counseling and support. It provides a more holistic approach and has been shown to be highly effective in helping with prolonged recovery.

Treatment involves first removing dependence (the need to take drugs to avoid withdrawal), and then controlling addiction (the intense craving for the drug and subsequent compulsive use). While medication helps manage the physical aspects of addiction, counseling and support help keep you on track with goals and making changes in behavior towards a new lifestyle.

MAT at our facility is supervised by a board certified Addiction Specialist with extensive experience in managing substance abuse patients. It is done on an outpatient basis so that you can maintain a job and be with your family.

Suboxone® (Buprenorphine)

Our physician prescribes Suboxone, which is made up of buprenorphine and naloxone. This medication reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms but does not produce euphoria (high) that is found in heroin or other opioids. Additionally, Suboxone effectively blocks other narcotics while reducing withdrawal risk. This medication is easy to administered and can be taken as a daily dissolving tablet or a cheek film.

Visits

The first visit at our practice is to establish you in our program. We screen all patients for to decide if MAT is the appropriate therapy for you. A past and present medical history is taken along with details of your drug use. A detailed consent will explain how we manage our program. A treatment plan is developed and goals are established. A drug screen is obtained and medication can be prescribed on the first visit.

During the induction phase of treatment you will return to the office weekly for four weeks. At each visit there will be discussion of how the medication is working, reviewing the plans and goals that were established. Drug screens will be required at each visit during this phase.

After the four weeks if you are doing well on the medication and are showing progress in your plans and goals you can move to every two weeks for a month then once a month. Drug screens are taken at those visits also. After a few months, depending on your progress, you will have the choice of checking in through convenient video calls or continuing to visit us in person, ensuring that you receive the care that best suits your preferences and lifestyle.

It is our goal to ensure that every individual who enters our office is treated with the utmost dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment everyone.
